Frequently Asked Questions

Beginning therapy is an important decision, and it's natural to have questions. Here you'll find answers to some of the questions I'm most often asked.

Counselling and psychotherapy provide a safe, confidential space to explore your thoughts, feelings, and experiences.

I work from a person-centred foundation, which means the focus is on your individual needs and experience. I also integrate CBT, expressive therapy, and grounding techniques were helpful. Each session is tailored to your pace, goals, and what feels most supportive for you.

Counselling is often shorter-term and focuses on specific current issues such as grief, stress, or life transitions. It usually includes practical coping strategies and support.

Psychotherapy is typically longer-term and explores deeper patterns, past experiences, and underlying difficulties. It aims to support lasting emotional change and personal growth.

My main approach is person-centred therapy, which places your experience at the centre of our work. I also draw on CBT, expressive therapies, and grounding techniques when appropriate. The way I work at is flexible and always adapted to your needs.

The free 20-minute consultation is a chance for us to get to know each other and talk about what has brought you to therapy.

We will discuss your current situation, what you would like to get from therapy, and any questions you may have. There is no pressure to share everything in this first meeting. We will go at a pace that feels comfortable for you.

Before your first session, I will email you an assessment form. Please complete it in your own time before the session and email it back to me.

I will also send you a counselling agreement. Please read it carefully. If you are happy with the terms and conditions, sign it and email it back to me. If there is anything you would like to ask about or discuss, we can go through it together during our first session before you sign it.

You only need to complete the assessment form and sign the counselling agreement once.

At the beginning of your first session, and at the start of each session after that, we will complete two short questionnaires together: the PHQ-9 and the GAD-7.

The PHQ-9 has 9 questions, and the GAD-7 has 7 questions. Each question has a range of answer options. You will choose or circle the option that best describes how you have been feeling.

These questionnaires help us monitor your mood and anxiety over time. They also help us understand how you are feeling and make sure our sessions focus on what is most important to you.

Once we have completed the questionnaires, we will begin the counselling session. Each session lasts 50 minutes.

The number of sessions you need will depend on your individual needs and what you would like to work on.

Some people come to therapy for a short time to work on a specific issue, while others find longer-term therapy more helpful.

During our first session, we will talk about your goals and what you hope to achieve through therapy. As we work together, we will regularly review your progress.

I usually offer an initial block of 10 weekly sessions. Towards the end of these sessions, we will review how things are going and discuss whether you would like to continue with further sessions.

Many people feel anxious or unsure before their first therapy session, and that is a very common experience.

You do not need to talk about everything straight away. We will work at a pace that feels right for you, and you will always have the choice about what you would like to share. My aim is to provide a safe, supportive, confidential and non-judgemental space where you can feel comfortable and heard.

I am a qualified Counsellor and Psychotherapist. I hold a Postgraduate Diploma (Level 7) with Distinction and am currently completing an MSc in Counselling and Psychotherapy at the University of Salford. I am a registered member of the BACP and have completed supervised clinical placements, providing face-to-face, telephone, and online counselling. I have a Fit to Practise certificate and a Remote Counselling certificate from the University of Salford.

I regularly complete professional training, including safeguarding, suicide prevention, CBT, and remote counselling. I also hold an Enhanced DBS, have the right to work in the UK, and receive regular clinical supervision to ensure safe and ethical practice.

Therapy sessions are confidential, and I will only share information in a small number of rare situations, such as:

• If I am seriously concerned about your safety or the safety of someone else.

• If I am required to do so by law or a court order.

• If information relates to certain serious criminal activities.

Wherever possible, I will always try to discuss any concerns with you first.

As part of safe and ethical practice, I attend regular clinical supervision. During supervision, I may discuss my work with a qualified supervisor to help ensure I provide the best possible support. Your identity remains confidential. I do not share your full name or any information that could identify you, and I usually refer to clients only by their initials.

My supervisor also works within the BACP Ethical Framework and is professionally required to keep all information discussed in supervision strictly confidential.

I am based in Manchester, UK, and offer online and telephone counselling and psychotherapy to clients across the UK.

Sessions are provided remotely through Microsoft Teams (no account required) or by telephone.

Sessions cost £45 each. Payment is by bank transfer and should be made at least 48 hours before your appointment.

If you cancel your session more than 24 hours in advance, you will receive a full refund. If you cancel less than 24 hours before your appointment or do not attend the session, the fee is non-refundable.

Each session lasts 50 minutes and is usually held once a week. Having a regular weekly appointment helps build consistency and supports your progress in therapy.

Yes. I offer a free 20-minute online consultation where you can ask questions and see whether working together feels comfortable.

After you contact me, I will reply by email within 48 hours to offer you a free online consultation. This gives us the opportunity to talk about your needs, answer any questions you may have, and see whether we feel we can work well together.

If we decide to work together, I will email you a counselling contract and an assessment form. Please read the counselling contract carefully, complete the assessment form, and email both documents back to me. If you are happy with the terms and conditions in the counselling contract, you can sign it before returning it.

Once I have received both completed documents, we will arrange your first counselling and psychotherapy session at a day and time that suits us both.

If you would like to book a free initial consultation or have any questions, please complete the contact form.

The contact form should include fields for the client's name, email address, phone number, and message. Once the client submits the form, I should receive their enquiry by email.
